![]() Happy February everyone!! I hope you're having a great weekend. Today is the first reading recap blog I'm uploading! Now I am getting back into reading, I thought it would be the perfect time to share the books I've read during January. I will be posting a recap at the end of end month, and each recap will have reviews on each book I've read throughout that month (no spoilers I promise). I am so excited to document all the books I read this year on my blog, and I hope these blogs will help you choose your next book!! Let's get started.... 'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine': 4/5 starsThis book I technically started in December but I read most of it in January, so it still counts. At first, I did find it hard to connect and understand the protagonist, Eleanor Oliphant. However, as she opened up more and revealed more about her past, I felt so sympathetic for her and got quite emotional in parts- the storyline does get dark and there's a lot of mental health issues! The book really pulls you through the emotions, and the ending was just perfect. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars was purely because, some things didn't seem to add up in my opinion. For example, Eleanor is in her 30s, went to university and has a finance career, yet she didn't know the differences between computers and laptops. Surely at some stage in her life (like in her career for example), she would have encountered the different forms of computers? Little things like that dotted in the book were a bit confusing to me. Having said that, the overall storyline was amazing, and it was lovely to see how one character can change the path of another character. Just by being a friend and someone to talk to! I am really glad I read this book and I highly recommend it! 'The Mickey Mouse Museum. Style of an Icon': 5/5 starsIs it even a surprise that I read this book and gave it 5 stars? I think not! This book gave me so much joy because I am a massive Disney fan! Yet I learnt so much about the company, Walt Disney and the characters that I didn't know already. Yes it only touched the surface, but it gave information on all aspects of Walt and Mickey's career. The thing I loved the most was the artwork and photos included. It was beautiful to see older posters and artworks, to really understand the history of Mickey. This book is definitely a keepsake, and if you are a Disney fan of any level it is a must read! 'As Old as Time': 4/5 starsThe next book I read was the Beauty and the Beast twisted tales adaptation. It is perfect for any Disney fan! It stays true to the original storyline, whilst still having its fair share of twists and darkness. The was a back and forward narration from past to present which I really enjoyed. It helped to tie all the events from the past to the present, which was intriguing as I wanted to know more about how event would connect together. The twists at the end were great, and I didn't see them coming. The only slightly annoying thing was that some of the sentences were awkward to read, which is why I didn't give it five stars. I feel like in places I had to re-read sentences and paragraphs to make sense of what was going on. But hey maybe that's me just being picky! Overall, it was great storyline with magic, darkness and love. The ending was sweet and I felt that it was left ope for a follow on book? Who knows! 'Big Little Lies': 5/5 starsNow this book I absolutely loved reading! The writing in this book is incredible. It's so vivid and detailed, which really makes you understand what the characters are thinking and feeling. I loved how each chapter focused on a character, and how at the start of end of each chapter there was some dialogue from the future. It has to be the funniest book about murder and domestic violence. The storyline is heart felt, and you through all the emotions when reading! I would definitely recommend it and I cannot wait to read more of Liane Moriarty's books.
Yes I have watched the television show previous to read the book, so I did already know the storyline and characters. However, I didn't feel like it ruined it for me, and I actually felt closer to the characters. I could really get inside their head and know exactly what they were thinking, which the show could only do partly in my opinion. I absolutely love the show though and high recommend watching it. There you have it! My first reading recap! I hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts on these four books. I would highly recommend all of them! Also I am so proud of myself for reading four books in one month. I haven't done that in years, and it feels so good to be back into reading. Visit my blog at the end of this month to see what books I read! Lidia x
