This is going to be a long blog, but its definitely worth a read! In May this year I took part in my own fundraising for a charity that has been close to my family's heart for a number of years, Bluebell Wood Hospice (it is based in the north of England). From around September 2014 I decided to grow my hair so that I could have it cut short. The remaining hair would then be sent off to be transformed into a wig for a child at Bluebell Wood who would be undergoing cancer treatment; I thought 'after all my hair will grow back'. I had seen on the charity's Facebook page that a girl around five years old had her hair cut for the charity, and it inspired me to do the same! Also, I decided to base my 17th Birthday Party around fundraising, which meant that I was not given any presents only money to support my charity hair cut. This birthday party was the best I've ever had, and even though it was different to all my friends' birthday parties, it was one I'll never forget and I'm sure my friends won't forget it too! So from September right up until the day I had it cut, I was forever seeing if I could make my hair grow quicker; I wanted to give as much of my hair as possible to the charity in order to help the child as much as possible. In February of this year I decided I would go and visit the hospice, as I had never been before and I wanted to see for myself what it was like but also to see where my fundraising would be spent. I got the chance to see different rooms that are provided for the children, as well as for the parents! The caring work that was provided by staff was very clear whilst I visited. It was a very emotional experience that I will never forget, and it had really given me a greater insight into how much the children benefitted from my small part of fundraising. The day came and I was very nervous but I kept saying 'I'm doing it for a good cause. I can do it!' and it definitely made me smile... a lot! I was very surprised when the hairdresser cut off my hair, but I was smiling so much! I got it cut to my shoulders so it was around 9inches of my hair that I gave away for a wig. It did feel very strange for a while having short hair; going into shops and walking past a mirror, then just looking and staring at my hair!!! However, I'm so glad I did it and I will not go back to having long hair anytime soon! Why am I writing a blog on this? Not only is my fundraising account coming to an end today, but I'd like to raise awareness on the importance of taking part in a charity event similar to mine(or maybe even the same!!), in order to help smaller charities such as Bluebell Wood. There are so many different charity events you can do, all you have to do is search for them! It is the most amazing experience once you've done something for others, and you feel so proud of yourself once you've done it! I've had so much support from my family and friends for doing this and I can't thank them enough! Hope you've enjoyed reading this, and I hope you have gathered inspiration to start/join a charity event for your chosen charity! If you do decide to take part in a charity event, please comment below what you are doing!!! Below are some pictures before and after my hair cut :) Lidia ![]() We had so much fun in the little Photo Booth at my Birthday Party!

Hi I'm Lidia and I'm a typical 17 year old girl. I love spending time with my family and friends, going on trips abroad, going to concerts to see my favourite artists and just being a normal teenage girl. My intentions for creating a blog is to generally write about my thoughts, interests and different events that I have enjoyed (as well as looking back at past memories).
I hope that my blogs will come in useful to you in many different ways. I would like to write about general advice that comes in handy when being a teenager and dealing with difficult situations such as exam stress etc...I love helping people and seeing people smile so I feel that even if this blog helps/makes one person smile and be happy I'll be over the moon! I would also like to write about any other little things that interest me and help me as I venture into adulthood. So hop "on my cloud", sit back and have a read.... You may or may not like my blogs, so always feel free to leave comments about any blog, in order for me to improve on my style of writing but also on the topics I write about; I'd like to look back in a years time and see that I have improved my blog! Enjoy! |
