![]() I’ve always loved reading since being a kid. From reading I also gained a deep interest in story writing throughout school. When I started A Levels/university reading became a less of a priority unfortunately. However since finishing university in mid May I decided to pick up my book again and start reading! I’ve bought a lot of books recently, mainly Disney inspired ones if I’m being honest. I thought why not share my book reviews (I’ll try to not give an spoilers) on my blog because my goal is to read at least five books by the end of the year (I’m on my third one at the moment!). So the first book I decided to pick up and read was the Once Upon a Dream: Twisted Tales book by Liz Braswell. As most of you know I am a massive Disney lover so when I found out there were books inspired by the Disney classic stories I knew they would go on my reading list. This particular book is based on the Sleeping Beauty story but creates dark twists to dig deeper into the original storyline. The main storyline consists of the question: what would happen if Sleeping Beauty never woke up? My Rating: 5/5 StarsI throughly enjoying this book! I was very intrigued as to how they would twist the story. I was told by other people who had read the book that it gets very twisted, but to be honest I thought “how can a Disney classic be twisted?” But trust me it does!! All of the twists were very surprising, and numerous times I had to reread sections because I just couldn’t believe what was happening on the page! The twists also enabled the storyline to have multi dimensions and perspectives, which at first was hard to get my head around but gradually it began to make sense. Even though there are dark twists, this book fully weaves the original storyline and everything that takes place makes so sense when compared to the classic story. The writer didn’t shy away from the consequences of the darkness, which I loved, because there wasn’t a sense “and then it was as if nothing had ever happened” towards the end. On top of that, the book builds upon the classic tale which makes me very happy. We get more details about Aurora and Phillip’s relationship with more interactions, and more chances for both of them to see each other’s ugly sides. This really gives them the chance to choose each other instead of just accepting love at first sight. Aurora seemed to be the most changed compared to the classic story. She is very much in power of her actions, even though she had to discover who she really was throughout the beginning. She is an empowered woman who creates her own ending through her bravery and determination. I loved how Prince Phillip also had a lot of determination to get Aurora to believe in herself and push her to discover her true self. He was supportive and I loved how they were such a dream team, because they knew each other so much more deeply. One of my favourite elements of the story was the fact that it was so vivid. Throughout the whole book I could imagine the events, characters and scenery because the descriptions were so detailed. I love it when a book creates the story so vividly in my mind; it makes me so much more invested in the story and characters. All in all this adaptation is incredible and builds upon the classic story so much more, to dig deeper into the circumstances and the characters. I really enjoyed her writing style too. I would definitely recommend this book to any Disney lover and I would 100% reread it again.I have finished reading another book in this Twisted Tales series, and I have just started another one. So there will be more book reviews coming on my blog very soon!! Until next time, Lidia x My Social Media:
